What happens to joint debts when we divorce in Florida?

Joint debts are considered marital debts. It’s the court intention for both parties to leave the marriage with an equal amount of marital assets and debts, meaning that both parties are on equal footing. The debts would be divided equally, of course taking into consideration the marital assets. Attorneys often will create an equitable distribution worksheet to assist us in separating those debts equally.
